Decorating Animals

Last night my wife an I got our Halloween decorations out and started to get our house ready for the big Halloween party this weekend. We always have an annual party where we invite relatives, friends, and coworkers. We have games for the kids and some Halloween drinks for the adults. Spiked apple cider is always a hit!! We are especially excited this year because it will be the first time taking my 2-year-old our trick or treating. He had a ball last night helping us decorate the house. I only wish I had his energy.

On a side note, my wife had her first Trimester Doctor's visit on Monday. We found out that the baby is due officially on June 3rd. Her weight and blood pressure was looking good. Starting to get excited. Her next appointment is on November 22. We are going to do the first trimester screen and have an ultrasound........

Busy Weekend

This past weekend was pretty busy for us. On Saturday we had a family reunion that lasted the whole day. My son was outside on the big slide from 12:00 all the way until we left at about 8:00 PM. He would not let us take him inside at all. When we tried he would scream and throw a big fit. So we just gave in and let him have fun. At least we know that our son is a very active kid and loves to be outside.

On Sunday we took a trip to the Zoo. They had a Halloween event where they were giving out candy at different stations. We dressed my son in his devil costume and we went trick-or-treating for a few hours. We had a blast, the best part was showing my son all those animals for the first time. He absolutely loved it. My wife also enjoyed herself this weekend. She is progressing very well and is feeling great..........

I Just Don't Get It

Why do all you women out there need to shop for things sooooooooooo far in advance? My wife told me last night that she was going to get my 2-year-old a few new shirts for this winter. I was like ok no big deal. So she went to Babies R US and I stayed home and did some work. About 3 hours later she walks into the house with seven bags of clothes and I am not exagerating even a little. I was like, what is in all thoes bags? She said, Clothes for the baby. I was like, I thought you were getting winter clothes for our son? She said, I did, I also got clothes for the new arrival. Right there I was getting kind of upset. She is only about 9 or 10 weeks along, we don't even know what the sex of the child is yet. Her explaination is that the clothes were on sale and they were all nuteral colors. She bought my son 15 outfits and the new baby about 20 different shirts. She spent $276 of our hard earned money on clothes that the kids will probaly only were a few times. I don't think I'll ever let my wife go shopping with out me for the rest of her life.........

What Does It All Mean

What does it mean to be a father? To me, being a father is the single greatest thing in my life besides being a husband to my wife. When you first see your new born baby you get this feeling that you have never felt before. Is it fear, is it love, is it anxiety, I believe that it is all of those things wrapped up into one big emotion. The minute you see your child, you begin to fear for him or her. You want them to be safe and free from harm. You begin to love them, probably more then you have ever loved anything before in your entire life, and you become anxious, you want to be a good father and raise your child to become a good person in the world.

So what does it mean to be a father? I believe that it means you become a teacher, a mentor, a guardian, a roll model, a friend, a hero, and most importantly it means you become a dad. I am nervous and excited about the birth of my second child. I want to be the best dad that I can possibly be and I want to make sure that my wife has an enjoyably pregnancy.

And The Result Is

Last night we had an early childhood intervention specialist over to the house to do an evaluation on our 2-year-old. We called them last week because we thought that he had a speech delay. They did a series of tests and it was determined that he actually does not qualify for treatment because he is not delayed enough. They told me that he was right where he was supposed to be at his age. We were concerned originally because he has a friend at daycare that is 2 months younger then my son and is already speaking in sentences. I guess all children progress differently. My wife and I are happy to hear that he is on track. They warned me that when he starts to talk he won't stop. They told us to enjoy the silence while it lasts...........

Feeling Better

My wife is doing much better with her nausea as of late. She is progressing very well. This past weekend we bought a membership to a gym. I mad a deal with her that I would go to the gym with her everynight after work. We decided that if we are going to have another baby then we are going to need tons of energy. Losing a litter weight in the meantime wouldn't hurt anything. I am starting to get excited about the idea of fathering another child. I will keep you all updated......

Change the Damn Diaper

My wife and I are so upset with our daycare provider that we are seriously thinking about finding another place for him to go. Yesterday we got a call from them informing us that my son was very cranky and that they wanted us to come and pick him up because he might be sick. So of course we had to adjust or schedules and find time to pick him up and take him to the doctor. My wife ended up leaving work early to go pick my son up. My son was indeed cranky, she said that he was screaming all the way to the doctor. When my wife undressed him for his exam, she noticed that his diaper was very soiled and that he had a very bad diaper rash. So she cleaned him up and put some soothing ointment on him. After that he was fine. The doctor said that there was nothing wrong with him and she told us to tell the daycare that they have to change his diaper more often. We pay these people $210 per week to look after our son, you would think that they would be a little more responsible........

Early Childhood Intervention

Last night my wife and I were discussing what we should do about our 21 month old. We believe that he is behind the other children at his daycare with his speech progression. He says a few words but they are very unclear and hard to make out. There is this little girl that he goes to school with, she is 20 months and is already talking in full articulate sentences. I know that every child progresses differently, but we are very concerned because we believe that he should be a little bit more advanced with his speech at his age.

We were calling around and we discovered that our County offers a program where they can come out to your house and do an evaluation of your child's speech progression. They best part about it is that it's a free service. They call it Early Childhood Intervention. We made an appointment for next Tuesday @ 6PM. I hope that they say that he is right on track, but we just want to make sure. Has anybody out there had a similar problem?..........

Morning Sickness

In my opinion my wife's current pregnancy is 100% different then her first pregnancy. I mentioned yesterday that she is showing much quicker then before and this morning my wife felt very sick. I am going to be a little gross, I apologize in advance, but she was up about 3 times last night puking her guts out and once this morning. She did not have any morning sickness during her first pregnancy, but apparently its here for her second. I hope she feels better throughout the day because when my wife get sick she is very moody. I hope you feel better sweetie.........

An Evening Out

This weekend was pretty uneventful. My wife and I managed to find a babysitter for Saturday night. We went out to dinner and a movie. We also went looking for toddler beds for the little one. We decided that we do not want to buy another crib for the new baby, instead, we are going to keep the nursery the same and move my son into a new room with a toddler bed. He is 2, I think he is big enough for a toddler bed.

On a side note I guess it's true when they say the mother shows much quicker for the second child then the first. I noticed this weekend that my wife is carrying a noticeable pouch on her. She is only about 8 weeks along, I hope it's not twins........

Eating Good in the Neighborhood

The cravings have started. Last night when I got home from work my wife felt like going out to eat. I was pretty excited because we hardly ever leave the house anymore. So we got my son ready and headed out. We were driving around for a little while and my wife said, "I want French Onion "Soup." I was like, you know you hate onions, right? She said, "I know, but I really want French Onion Soup." So we decided to go to Applebees.

During the meal I realized why we never leave the house anymore. I don't know about you, but my 2 -year-old is the most restless human being on the planet. Half way through dinner he started screaming because he was finished eating and he wanted to go "screw around." I let him out of the highchair and as soon as his feet touched the ground, he sprinted away. I am not a fast person at all. Trying to catch my son when he is running is like trying to catch a wild turkey, it's not that easy. So of course my son heads toward the back of the room and sure enough, he finds his way into the kitchen. Now the kitchen floor is pretty greasy and my son is pretty fast. I learned yesterday that greasy and fast does not make the best combination. My son slips on the floor and slides a few feet. Of course he starts crying very loud and while I am carrying him back I notice that most of the people are looking at me wishing I could shut the kid up. I finally got him settled back down and I asked my wife "are you sure you want to have another one of these?"

In case you were wondering my wife had 2 bowls of French Onion Soup and the Pasta Alfredo and I enjoyed a nice Steak..........

In with the Old

Last night my wife felt like making a huge mess in our basement. She decided to go digging through all of our stored boxes so she could find her old maternity clothes. I want to remind you that she is only about 2 months pregnant and shes not even close to showing yet. She is the type of person that will plan for something WELL in advance. Last summer we decided to take a trip to Orlando. We booked the Hotel and Plane reservations in March. Our trip was scheduled for the last week of July. The night that we booked our reservations and I am not exaggerating even a little bit, she decided to try on every summer outfit in her wardrobe and write down the ones that she wanted to take with her. That's not even the best part. About three weeks before we left she decided to take a trip to the mall and spend about $300 on clothes for Orlando when she already had a detailed list of what she was planning on bringing with her. I can't wait for the day that I understand how women rationalize.......

Weird Night

Last night was one of those weird nights that we all occasionally experience every now and again. My wife and I hardly ever lock our front door because we live out in the country where there's not much traffic. Somehow and don't ask me how, but for some weird reason our front door was locked and of course neither one of us have a key on us. So I have to call a locksmith to come out and let us in our house. The locksmith of course took about an hour to get to us and in the meanwhile I have a cranky 2 year old that is hungry and will not sit still in the car. So we have to let him run around the yard in the rain because that's the only way he will stop screaming. Don't forget that I have a wife that is about eight weeks pregnant and lets just say that she wasn't in the best of moods. Ahhh!!!! what a night....
